Argumentive Thesis Statement Advanced Higher English Dissertation Submission Date
If your thesis is something that is generally agreed upon or accepted as fact then there is no reason to try to persuade people.Example of a non-debatable thesis statement: implies that something is bad or negative in some way.Setting out to prove the validity of your point of view as your paper develops marks the difference between stating an opinion and presenting an argument.Although the thesis statement’s purpose is different from that of the guiding idea, the two are similar in some very important ways.Your job as a writer is to persuade the reader—through the careful use of examples and thoughtful analysis—that your argument is a valid one. Although you do want to grab your reader's attention, asking a question is not the same as making a thesis statement.Your job is to persuade by presenting a clear, concise concept that explains both how and why.If it isn't stated, identify which of the characteristics discussed above that it violates.
For this reason, there is no need to explain to readers that you will back up your thesis in your essay.
